My first encounter with Giggly Sprout and Gumbo Wobbly
was simply magical. I was in Prescott, Az. attending
a "World
of Froud Faery Festival" produced by Imaginosis.
These Living Folklore Clowns added a unique theatrical
component to the event and did a wonderful job.
I was taken by their talent, their energy, and the
beautiful costumes they had created. Afterwards
we spoke briefly about their work and the depth of
study they had applied to their artform. They
told me of how their experiences with Native People,
including their friends on Hopi, had inspired their
approach to storytelling and costuming. They also
spoke of their studies in child development and brain
science as an effort to better teach and entertain
children. |
As I got to know both of them and their
work better, I encouraged them to consider creating media
content to further their beautiful work in the world. In
addition to the live performance work they do, they are
currently finishing the final touches on a whimsical and
charming illustrated 32 page picture book for children with
drawings by Emmy Award-winning artists/animator, Bret
Blevins. We will be shopping the book to publishers
soon, as well as working on the concept for a TV series
for children and other media possibilities.
